Library In Heraklion
This project is a Library built over archaeological space in Heraklion lion square. The main concept's axis is the revelation of the old wall currently burried underneath the site by"unfolding" the ground above while simultaneously inviting people inside with the large ramp leading to the main entrance as a virtual extension of the square, intertwining the concept of the old and the new.
The main glacial core is the library itself and everything other use is surrounding this space. A spiral ramp runs through the bookshelfs and the reading space allowing visual contact with the archaeological site at all times.
The library building also contains a restaurant, a cafeteria, an exhibition space as well as an auditorium and a children's library. It is fully accesible by wheelchair.
